Karen Kubby was born August 8, 1960 in Virginia. She lived in Iowa City briefly in the early 1970s, and returned in 1978 to attend the University of Iowa. As a member of the newly revived Iowa Socialist Party Kubby became active in university and community issues such as the fair rent campaign in the early 1980s.
